Focus and Scope
The Electronic Journal Dr. Zoilo E. Marinello Vidaurreta is a specialized publication of the province of Las Tunas, Cuba, with the purpose of socializing the results of scientific research achieved by professionals in health sciences, or linked to them, and experiences in the teaching-learning process and other relevant activities in the development of public health. As of the year 2023, volume 48, the magazine adopts a continuous article publication.
The objective of the journal is to disseminate the scientific results of professionals linked to health and the training of human resources for health, anywhere in the world, with priority in the territory of the province of Las Tunas.
In the Electronic Journal Dr. Zoilo E. Marinello Vidaurreta, authors can publish letters to the editor, editorials, original articles, historical articles, case presentations, brief communications and any information that is pertinent and important for the development of scientific activity in the province. and the country. The articles and opinions published in the journal are the sole responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily reflect that of the institution or its editorial committee. The works are selected and reviewed by an editorial committee and specialists through arbitration management. Manuscripts and their authors receive appropriate ethical treatment in the editorial process and rejections are reported to the authors.This magazine does not contain, nor does it accept advertising materials, nor works that are under the consideration of the Editorial Board of another national or foreign magazine. The journal accepts documents previously published on recognized preprint servers (PubMed Central, Medxiv, ArXiv, bioRxiv, Plos, SciELO Preprints and others considered by the editorial committee). The authors must mention in their submission the availability of the document in any of these servers and its exact location. The publication regulations can be consulted before sending an article online in section policy.
Accepted manuscripts remain the property of the journal and, therefore, may not be submitted for consideration by another journal for publication, unless duly authorized by the Editorial Committee. The journal adheres to the open access policy for scientific publication, which allows copying and distribution, as long as it maintains the recognition of its authors, does not make commercial use of the works and does not make any changes to them. The Editorial Committee reserves the right to introduce changes in style and/or limit the texts that require it, committing itself to respect the original content.
On the other hand, the journal does not publish experimental studies or clinical trials in phase II or III or quasi-experimental, if these studies are not registered and approved by the national bodies that regulate the development of these investigations.
Any ethical violation related to the publication will be resolved using the protocols established by the International Committee on Ethics in Scientific Publication (COPE).
The Electronic Journal Dr. Zoilo E. Marinello Vidaurreta complies with the certification requirements established for scientific-technological serial publications, provided for in the third section, article 20 of resolution no. 59/2003 of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of the Republic of Cuba.
The journal is indexed in international databases, directories, catalogues, registries and others.
Peer Review Process
The Electronic Journal Dr. Zoilo E. Marinello Vidaurreta follows the policy of peer review of scientific articles sent by the authors, which meet the publication standards. In all cases, this review process protects both the authors and the experts who review the manuscripts, maintaining special care with the established ethical standards and avoiding conflicts of interest.
The editors of the magazine will keep the authors informed of the works received and their subsequent acceptance or not to continue in the process, and they will be able to know when they are in it through their account registered on the platform. Manuscripts will be reviewed anonymously by two experts in the object of study and/or methodology used. Gradually, the journal will open the peer review. The editorial staff of the magazine reserves the right to reject articles that it does not deem appropriate for publication.
In all cases, the editorial committee will consider the value of the works proposed for the development of the National Health System, regardless of the national or foreign origin of the authors or their membership in one or another organization.
The essential criteria that are valued for the publication of an article are:
* Correspondence with the interest profile of the publication and its readers.
* Originality, timeliness, novelty or validity of the proposed study.
* Significance for research or practice in the field covered.
* Methodological quality and content of the work. Conclusions based on the results and objectives.
* Compliance with ethical standards.
* Quality of the presentation (structure and writing).
* Adequacy, timeliness, value and presentation of bibliographical references.
* Compliance with the instructions for the presentation of the works.
All decisions are communicated within a maximum period of 90 business days, from the date on which the original is received. If the work is conditioned, the new version must be sent within a period that must not exceed 30 days. Works that are accepted for publication immediately go on to be announced in Articles in press.
Before the publication of the works, the authors will receive by email a copy in .pdf format, so that they can participate in the final review of its content and in the correction of any typo in the text.
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content, based on the principle that providing the public with free access to research supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. It means that copying and distribution of the contents by any means is allowed, provided that the recognition of their authors is maintained. These terms are a reflection of the journal assuming copyright under Creative Commons licenses, specifically under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license.
Access to all the contents of the journal, registration and submission of articles is completely free. All the processing of the articles, their review, editing and publication is free of charge for the authors.
Post Frequency
During the years 2012 to 2016, volumes 37 to 41, the magazine had a monthly publication frequency. As of 2017, in search of increasing quality indicators, it adopts a publication frequency of every two months. In correspondence with current trends, since January 2023 the journal adopts the continuous publication of articles, by volumes.

To publish in the Electronic Journal Dr. Zoilo E. Marinello Vidaurreta, authors must follow the Uniform requirements for manuscripts sent to biomedical and health sciences journals, hereinafter uniform requirements, which are established by the International Committee of Directors of Medical Journals (CIDRM). The works must be written following the publication format established by the journal for each of the sections, otherwise the Editorial Committee reserves the right of non-publication.
The process of submitting articles will be carried out completely online (from the journal's Internet space) filling in, the authors, all the metadata available for this purpose. Electronic submission saves time and postage costs and facilitates the handling of the manuscript in the different phases of the editorial process (for example, in the submission to external reviewers). For the electronic submission of a manuscript, the instructions for authors must be consulted and followed, defined in About / Section policies and Guidelines for authors.
Receiving papers through the online submission system implies agreeing with the journal's policy which, among other purely technical points, raises the following ethical and rigorous aspects:
1. The submitted manuscript implies that it is original and that it has not been previously published or is being evaluated for publication in another journal and complies with the publication standards established in About.
2. The article complies with the bibliographic and style requirements indicated in the guidelines for authors, which can be found in About / Section policies and Guidelines for authors.
3. The documents cited in the text are issued by authorized sources such as: prestigious organizations recognized by national or international organizations; national or international scientific journals that allow the data of the articles to be consulted through the internet, either in databases or directly on the site of the scientific journal itself; or books and other documents that offer elements that identify the authors or publishers responsible for the content used.
4. The authors of the manuscript are responsible for all its contents and declare that there are no plagiarisms, conflicts of interest, or ethical conflicts; releasing the magazine from any such commitment.
5. This journal provides free and immediate access to its content, under the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater exchange of global knowledge. This means that the authors transfer the copyright to the journal, so that copies and distribution of the contents can be made by any means, as long as the authors are acknowledged, do not make commercial use of the works and do not make any modification of they.
Each article must be accompanied by a letter, uploaded as a complementary file, expressing the individual contribution of the authors in the study.
Registration in the journal and submission of articles is completely free. All the processing of the articles, their review, editing and publication is free of charge for the authors.

The journal assumes international standards for the preparation of scientific articles in biomedical and health sciences journals, bearing in mind the specificities of each of the sections. It is entirely dedicated to disseminating the results of scientific research carried out by professionals linked to health and the training of human resources for health, in the form of articles and according to the standards established for scientific journals in health sciences.

Journal History
The Electronic Journal “Dr. Zoilo E. Marinello Vidaurreta”, a scientific body for official dissemination of Medical Sciences in the province of Las Tunas, was founded in 1997, in the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Las Tunas, inheriting its name, taken in recognition of the prestigious scientist Cuban.

Significant dates:
1988
January- First antecedent of a journal of this type in the province. The Las Tunas Medical Sciences Journal, Vol I Num 1, is published in printed format, the only issue that was published.
1997
April- The “Revista Electrónica Dr. Zoilo E. Marinello Vidaurreta” is registered in the national registry of serial publications of Cuba, with the number 1824, folio 008, volume III.
2001
January- The journal is included in SeCiMed (Collective Catalog of Serial Publications of Health Sciences).
2003
Included in Latindex (directory of the regional online information system for scientific journals in Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal).
2005
It begins its registration in CUMED (database of Cuban scientific production in the field of medicine).
2009
January- The certification system of serial scientific-technological publications, of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, grants the CITMA seal to the journal.
2014
January- Begins to be managed from the OJS platform (by the abbreviations in English of Open Journal Systems).
2015
March- Included in LILACS (Latin American Literature in Health Sciences), cooperative database of the BIREME system.
October- Transferring the hosting to the national Infomed servers.
November- Accepted its inclusion in RedIB (Iberoamerican Network of innovation and scientific knowledge).
December- The journal begins to be disseminated through social networks: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+.
Certified with the seal of quality "Medicine 21", as Web of sanitary interest (WIS) and by the official Registry "Open Archives Initiative".

April- It is included in Google Analytics.
May- It begins its dissemination in the academic social networks ResearchGate and Academia.edu, where catalogs made in English are shared with the title, summary, authors and links to all the materials published as of January 2016. It is also published in Mendeley and ResearcherID.
