A crocodile attack is considered a cause of major trauma, taking into account the powerful nature of the bite, as well as of the shake of the aggression. It may lead to serious lesions, with a high mortality. In fatal cases death mechanisms are generally associated with a massive blood loss due to limb amputation, submersion or devastating sepsis. We present the case of a 20-year-old male patient, who was bitten by a crocodile, getting serious bone and soft-tissue lesions. He suffered from an open fracture of the right femur, in the Grade IIIA of Gustilo and Anderson. He was admitted to the “Josina Machel-María Pía” Hospital of Luanda, Angola. He was operated on urgently, after 14 hours of progress due to delays in arriving at the hospital. Debridement, open reduction and external fixation of the right femur were performed. An irrigation-suction drainage system was placed. The patient received antibiotic treatment with intravenous ceftriaxone and tetanus prophylaxis was done. The patient's progress was satisfactory and was discharged ten days after surgery.Downloads
