Abstract

Squamous cell carcinoma of the penis is a rare disease. Human papillomavirus infection, especially high oncogenic risk types, is the main risk factor associated with malignant neoproliferation of the male sex organ. We present a case of a locally advanced penile carcinoma, assessed in the provincial Urooncological Cancer Control Multidisciplinary Consultation from the Teaching General Hospital "Dr. Ernesto Guevara de la Serna" in Las Tunas. This is a 56-year-old patient with a history of poor personal hygiene and lack of protection in sexual relations, with a penis injury of 18 months of evolution, without treatment or professional supervision. Anamnesis, physical examination, pathological diagnosis, extension studies and staging were performed. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (cytoreducer) was administered and the three-week assessment showed a reduction of approximately 25% of the initial tumor volume. Subsequently, partial penectomy and bilateral lymph node dissection were performed. A diagnosis of stage IIIA epidermoid carcinoma of the penis was confirmed. All lesions of this topography must be assessed by specialists for diagnosis and therefore have better therapeutic options.
