Community-acquired pneumonia is a very common respiratory tract infection, especially in older adults; however, its mortality in outpatients is very low compared to other pathologies. As in other respiratory infections, the etiology includes viruses, bacteria and other microorganisms. The most common bacterial etiology is: Streptococcus pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydophila pneumoniae, Legionella pneumophila and Haemophilus influenzae. Pneumonias due to Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae are common in people over 50 years of age. The management of the most frequent microorganisms, as well as the infrequent ones, usually beginners in people with compromised immune system, is extremely relevant; in turn, the knowledge of antibiotic resistance as well as the fact of the possibility of having patients who present allergy to a certain antibiotic. We present the case of a female patient, 69 years old with a diagnosis of arterial hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus, long periods of establishment, poor blood glucose control, which debuts with non-productive cough that is evolving to productive, thoracic tightness to deep inspiration, fatigue, inappetence, afebrile, indicated by laboratory studies and sputum culture. We proceeded to outpatient management, home rest and expected results, which showed pneumonia to Stapylococcus aureus. Treatment is initiated with a positive patient evolution.Downloads
