Use of common salt in the treatment of umbilical granuloma, case series
Keywords:
UMBILICAL GRANULOMA, SALT, UMBILICAL CORDAbstract
Umbilical granuloma is a bright red lesion, formed by excess granulation after the fall of the umbilical cord, whose first-line treatment is silver nitrate. However, patients who have resolved this condition through the topical use of common salt have been described in the literature. The objective of presenting these cases was to expose the beneficial use of common salt in the treatment of umbilical granuloma. The cases included two infants of 4 and 2 months of age, respectively, born without complications, who several days after having dropped the umbilical cord, appreciated a "bright red lump" in the navel, whose diagnosis turned out to be umbilical granuloma. As a therapeutic alternative, common topical salt was prescribed in the lesion, with the signed consent of the mothers. There was complete resolution of the injury after the fourth and third days of treatment, respectively. The efficacy of the use of common salt in these cases was evidenced with complete resolution in a short time, absence of adverse effects and recurrence.Downloads
