Disc herniation mimicking a lumbar intradural extramedullary tumor: case report
Abstract
SUMMARY
The differential diagnosis of a large extruded disc herniation poses a significant challenge for radiologists, as its shape, location, and appearance may mimic an intradural extramedullary tumor. This case involves a 50-year-old female patient who had been experiencing low back pain for several weeks, radiating to the right leg at the ankle, accompanied by cramps. Physical examination revealed positive Lasegue and Bragard signs, prompting a lumbosacral computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. The lesion was initially suspected to be an intradural extramedullary tumor; however, imaging findings were consistent with a large extruded disc herniation. The patient underwent surgery, and the diagnosis was confirmed through histopathological examination. Treatment was completed with rehabilitation, with favorable clinical outcome.
