Evaluation of the use of therapy with removable appliances in Orthodontics.

Background: to solve the treatment needs of different malocclusions from an early age with the use of therapy with removable appliances. Objective: To evaluate the use of therapy with removable appliances in the Orthodontic service belonging to the 3 de Octubre Stomatological Clinic. Methods: cross-sectional descriptive observational study, we used primary sources through the Orthodontic Clinical History and the data collection sheet, where the presence of the variables was evaluated: sex, removable appliances according to their mode of action, number of breaks, elements with breakages of removable appliances and objective achieved with the use of the removable appliance. The data obtained were processed using descriptive statistics through percentage analysis of frequency distribution. The results were compared with national and foreign studies using updated bibliography. Results: We obtained a predominance of the female sex with 53.3%, the most used removable devices according to their mode of action are active plates 63.3%. The largest number of devices did not suffer breakage of their elements 76.7%, the most frequent broken element is the wire with 71.4% and in most cases the objectives set with the use of the device were achieved with 91.8 %. Conclusions: As conclusions, we obtained that the most used devices are the active plates, the metallic element is the one that suffers the most breakages. With the correct use of the devices we can achieve the objectives set for each of them.
