Glycemic control of delayed patients for eye surgery

Background: preoperative assessment is the study protocol that determines the patient’s physical fitness as well as the risk prior to surgery.
Objective: to assess the causes of surgical delay in patients with diabetes mellitus seen at the Ophthalmologic Center of Las Tunas from January to June, 2016.
Method: a retrospective longitudinal descriptive study was carried out. The universe consisted of 124 surgical patients included in the study period and the sample was made up of 67 patients that were postponed in an appointment prior to surgery.
Results: the prevailing ages were 70 and over with 28 patients for 50 %. The female sex prevailed with 45 patients for 62 %. 43 % of the patients were referred from the cataract office. It was demonstrated that 55% of the delayed patients had a bad glycemic control.
Conclusion: most of the delayed patients for surgery had a bad glycemic control.Downloads
