Doctor Leandro Fabián Figueroa González (1953 - 2007), the children's doctor in Caibarien, Villa Clara

Leandro Fabián Figueroa González was born on January 20, 1953 in Caibarién, former province of Las Villas. He graduated as a General Practitioner in 1975 and achieved First Degree Specialist in Pediatrics in 1979. Also known as "the doctor of children", had an accident with a fracture and spinal cord damage that confined him to a wheelchair, but he remained working as a doctor and played an important role in teaching and research. For his outstanding work for years, he was awarded the distinction for the 170 Anniversary of the Caibarién Foundation by the Municipal Assembly and the medal for Medical Services. He carried out an arduous teaching and research work, as a tutor and advisor of several degree theses. For his work of several decades dedicated to teaching and research he was also recognized. He worked his last five years as a paediatrician and maintained an outstanding work in the training of interns and residents. He died on May 13, 2007, leaving an important legacy for the new generations of doctors and the memory of many mothers who would be grateful for having always saved their children. In his memory, the teaching polyclinic of Caibarién is named after him.Downloads
