Background: hypertension has a high prevalence in the surgical population and is one of the main causes of suspended surgical interventions, due to the increased risk of perioperative complications.
Objective: to describe transoperative arterial hypertension in nephropathic patients with endotracheal general anesthesia, surgically treated at the "Manuel Ascunce Domenech" General Teaching Hospital of Camagüey, between 2011 and 2018.
Methods: a prospective, longitudinal study was carried out in a universe made up of 167 chronic nephropathic patients who underwent elective surgery under the method of endotracheal general anesthesia, operated on at the institution and during the period declared in the objective. The following variables were measured: age groups, sex, risk factors and/or associated diseases, arterial hypertension in the transoperative period and complications. The data were analyzed according to the descriptive statistics.
Results: 21 (13 %) patients presented transoperative arterial hypertension, predominating in the 40 to 49 age group and in the female sex. There was a higher incidence in patients with hypertension (85,7 %), diabetes mellitus and under dialysis (81 % in both). Cardiac arrhythmia was the most frequent complication. It was not necessary to suspend any surgical intervention.
Conclusions: aspects of transoperative arterial hypertension were described in nephropathic patients who underwent surgery with endotracheal general anesthesia and who were part of this study.
