Some metrics to assess the scientific production published in the biomedical journal of Las Tunas

Background: measuring the impact of the articles published by a scientific journal is a permanent concern of those responsible for that publication.
Objective: to describe some metrics to assess the scientific production published in the Dr. Zoilo E. Marinello Vidaurreta Electronic Journal of Las Tunas, Cuba.
Methods: a bibliometric study was carried out on the journal of health sciences that originates at the University of Medical Sciences of Las Tunas, the name of the journal has been declared in the objective. The study focused on the number of citations according to Google Scholar, collected until June 30, 2021. For the analysis, the 1883 citations received by the 810 articles published between the years 2014 and 2020 were considered.
Results: the h-index of the journal was 17. There is systematic growth in citations per year, 2020 has the highest number (642). The articles from 2015 have the highest number and frequency of citations, 518 and 3,62 respectively; followed by 2016 (432 and 3) and 2020 (251 and 2,64). Two years after being published, 40,64 % did not have citations. Out of the 20 most cited articles, 80 % were original articles; 65 % were published five years ago or more; five (25 %) were from 2020, all of them about COVID-19. General medicine is the most related specialty.
Conclusions: some metrics applied to the scientific production published in the journal were described.
