Scientific publications of students of the University of Medical Sciences of Cienfuegos in Cuban journals

Background: it is necessary for each university of medical sciences to encourage the scientific production of its students, as a way of spreading the results of the research activity and part of the training process, which should provide future graduates with the necessary tools for their future performance.
Objective: to describe the scientific production of students of the University of Medical Sciences of Cienfuegos, published in Cuban journals of health sciences during the period 2012 - first four months of 2022.
Methods: an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out. The universe was made up of 136 articles published in the aforementioned journals and period of time. The following variables were assessed: year of publication, type of journal, type of article, journal and topic. Descriptive statistics was used for data analysis.
Results: the year 2021 stood out with the highest number of published articles (69 articles for 50,73 %). Articles in student journals (106, for 77,94 %) and in the section of original articles (61, 45%) predominated. The largest number of them was published in the 16 de Abril journal (31 articles, for 22,79 %). Articles on COVID-19 stood out with 17 publications (12,5 %).
Conclusions: the student scientific activity of the University of Medical Sciences of Cienfuegos has shown a gradual and constant growth.
