Integrative dermatology: advances from Las Tunas

Abstract

Introduction: integrative medicine places the individual at the center of its attention, taking into consideration the socio-cultural factors of its environment, it covers all medical specialties, within them dermatology, with a particular interest from the individual due to its aesthetic value.

Objective: to expose the conceptual bases of integrative dermatology and the advances in this area of knowledge, from Las Tunas.

Method: a review of the literature available in SCOPUS, ClinicalKey, Elsevier, LILACS, SciELO, Medigraphic and Dialnet was carried out; the descriptors used included: dermatological diseases, cosmetics, dermocosmetic, integrative dermatology, integrative medicine, with high update levels. The authors presented their experiences in the research in Las Tunas, of analytical type, carried out in 2024, at the provincial Teaching Pediatric Hospital "Mártires de Las Tunas". A study group and a control group with 72 patients with ichthyosis at a ratio of 1:1 used beewax, combined with honey and propolis in a skin care ointment preparation for ichthyosis as apidermocosmetics and placebo. Effectiveness was determined by using Chi Square considered effective when p 0.05, for a 95 % reliability; and response rate.

Results: in Las Tunas, the investigation of the effects with apidermocosmetics showed a favorable response rate with clinical improvement and effectiveness. The conceptual bases of integrative dermatology were presented.

Conclusions: knowing the benefits and uses of integrative dermatology fosters the improvement of the dermatological evolution of patients.
