An educational intervention for the child and young asthmatic population from 8 to 11 years
old was carried out from January to July, 2012, in the policlinic of Manatí municipality, with the
objective to evaluate its effectiveness. The population of study was formed by the 258
asthmatic patients belonging to the 29 doctor’s offices of the community, and the sample, by
the 50 patients selected at random. The information was obtained by means of a
questionnaire that was applied before and after the educational intervention, and the facts
were collected during consultation and from the clinical charts. It was concluded that males
with first line antecedents of bronchial asthma prevailed, also with triggering factors such as
acute respiratory infections, dust and humidity, as well as those that show clinical signs of
reflux and have a wrong technique of spray application. It was detected an insufficient level of
knowledge about the estimation of the severity of the crisis, the triggering factors, the correct
use of the spray and the inter-crisis and exacerbation treatment.
