Abstract

In the dental retention syndrome, teeth are locked within the jaws, keeping the integrity of their physiological peri-coronary sac. This anomaly brings about affections in the oropharyngeal functions as phonetics, deglutition and mastication, besides the aesthetic implications. This is a case of a 12-year-old female mixed-race patient with Angle class I occlusion. The patient’s mother reported persistence of the child’s temporary tooth. The radiographic study confirmed retention of 21 and persistence of the temporary. The temporary tooth extraction was performed, once the tooth was screwed by surgery, the orthodontic treatment started with removable appliances and later with fixed appliances, what contributed to the tooth egression and location of the tooth in the dental arch. The patient is at the end stage and she is satisfied with the treatment.
