GASTROSCHISIS, GENERAL SURGERYAbstract
This is a case of a neonate treated because of gastroschisis in San Pedro Necta National Hospital in Huehuetenango Department, Guatemala. As there was no abdominal echography and there were viscera out of the cavity, including the stomach and the small and large intestines, an urgent surgical intervention was carried out during the first hour after birth. A careful preoperative process was carried out which included skin local antisepsis and the administration of amikacin and metronidazole as the available prophylactic antibiotic treatment. The surgical technique consisted of a primary closure of the abdominal wall defect and the return of the intestines to the abdominal cavity. No complications were reported and the hospital stay lasted 14 days.Downloads
