Abstract

Retinoblastoma is a hereditary malignant tumor of the retina in children and is generally diagnosed before the age of 5. This study presents the clinical case of a 6-year-old girl who came to the department of ophthalmology of Malanje Hospital, Angola, referred by Cuban physicians who carried out a research work in the municipality of Kalandula. The ophthalmologic examination revealed a tumoral mass in the right eye. Investigations were run and they included blood tests and CT scan. The anatomopathological studies showed a little differentiated retinoblastoma, with an extensive necrosis area and intratumoral hemorrhage. Surgical treatment with enucleation was performed and the patient was referred to the Institute of Oncology for chemotherapy.
