Sexually transmitted infections have become a threat for the lives of millions of people in a
brief time, so it is necessary that the responsible authorities take the necessary measures
to take that menace away. A quasi-experimental educational-intervention study was
carried out with adolescents studying at “Carlos Baliño” Secondary School from Las Tunas
municipality. The study took into consideration the criteria before and after the course of
the research, involving components of an action-investigation; from February to
November, 2011. With this purpose an association of adolescents was created aimed at
increasing the knowledge level of this group of people on sexually transmitted infections.
The universe was made up by the total roll of 185 students and the sample included 60 of
them. The educational strategy was structured in three stages (diagnosis, intervention and
assessment). At the end of the study it could be valued that the knowledge level of the
adolescents on sexually transmitted infections was deficient at the beginning of the
research for an 85 % while it increased after applying a set of lessons where the students
acquired a deeper knowledge on the subject for a 96 %. The effectiveness of the
educational strategy on STI was assessed as good.
